High Plains Raceway

About this event

Thank you for volunteering to work the 2026 The Art of Driving in the Drought HPDE!

This site allows the event registrar to keep track of the non-driving volunteers (equipment, grid, control, safety, tech at the track).  After the event the registrar will credit your motorsportreg account with the appropriate Future Payment Credit amounts.

All volunteers will receive a "free" lunch on the day(s) that they volunteer!

If you are an NDI and intend to instruct for the HPDE please register on the regular HPDE site.

If you are driving in the HPDE then please register on the regular HPDE site.

Important Notice:  We've recently been informed that about a week ago an HPR employee came down with symptoms that may be consistent with the hantavirus strain found in Colorado, the Sin Nombre virus (SNV).  He may have come down with it at HPR while "spring cleaning" but much is still unknown.  For example, testing results are not back so the "diagnosis" is unconfirmed at this point.  Nonetheless, we thought it important to inform you what is known since we had an HPDE event on May 2 and 3 and have another HPDE event scheduled for June 6 and 7.

The illness was reported to Arapahoe County Health and they inspected the premises on May 11, noted some mouse droppings, and made recommendations for clean-up.  A clean-up company is scheduled to do the work today, May 14.  Arapahoe Health did not instruct HPR to close or amend its operations.

The Sin Nombre hantavirus (SNV) was first found in Colorado in 1993 near the Four Corners area.  As is true in all of Colorado, the SNV strain is a low-level threat that is not known to be transmissible by person-to-person contact.  Infected deer mice can spread the virus through waste.  It becomes airborne and capable of inhalation during "spring cleaning" when sweeping, for example.  SNV is one of a number of hantaviruses and differs greatly from the Andes strain we've recently heard about on the cruise ship.  Arapahoe Health has not recorded an SNV infection between 2016 and 2025.  Please review the hantavirus fact sheet on the Arapahoe County Health Department website for more Information on how to mitigate risk at arapahoeco.gov under the "communicable disease surveillance/control" section

If you're a track person, you know the individual and we wish him a speedy recovery!
